I hope you enjoy this video. My thought was to not make a "KGup video" style video.... but to make something I would be proud of for years to come. About a year ago I was presented with an opportunity to go to a sea turtle conservation center in Costa Rica. There I met Valerie, an amazing conservation researcher who has a true passion for sea turtles. When I returned home I contacted Dr. Christine Finniger who taught me more. When the Cook Museum told me about their amazing opportunity with Kale the endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle, I was totally floored. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed the experience. Also, this is the first time DJI has sponsored Smarter Every Day. The Mavic Mini is going to be a great tool for upcoming videos. I've already shot a couple of things for upcoming videos with it. If you'd like to signal to them that you're glad they've decided to sponsor Smarter Every Day it would be awesome if you'd consider going here: →bit.ly/3ePEAjS ← and use promo code KLDE2Q87JZU9 to get 5% off when purchasing the DJI Mavic Mini or Mavic Mini Fly More Combo. They didn't tell me to put this in the comment section. I legitimately like the product and think you will too! As always, thanks for watching and supporting my efforts to learn all kinds of interesting things. I'm grateful for you. Regards, Destin

This has been my favorite video so far. I love turtles and this video touched my heart. I appreciate you on a family type level. My wife and I always sit and watch your show and think, "this guy has done everything" I seen this video and I decided that we were right lol. If we can save one turtle, that's what it's all about. Thank you for your interest in turtles and I'm glad we can share this love. Thanks also for the tears. Turtles are so innocent. Much love Destin. Sincerely Troy Stevens.

While living in Costa Rica, I have yet to see the turtles lay! I have seen wild ones swimming, but never on nesting. I have gone to those beaches but no turtles were there.
I absolutely loved this video. I was lucky enough to take a feild trip with my 3rd grade class back around 2006 and im most definitely going back to the new cooks museum to see kale and the rest of the animals. The cooks museum helped launch my love for natural history and animals

Who else cried??? Gosh that was an amazing video
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you.
This channel is soooooo good. I love the family content in this video 😊 seeing a man being a good father always makes me happy
I just woke up with this playing, and had what felt like a really long dream. I was surprised to see this video talking about turtles because my dream kind of centered on turtles. It was on the 49 min mark when I woke, I went back skipping through the video to see how alike the video and my dream were.. Very! There were characters, quotes situations and strangest of all... settings, like the room with the tanks, that exact room was in my dream at one point. Of course a lot was in my dream that wasnt in the video but it's crazy how much was and how my brain took a lot of the video and made a super vivid and crazy story into a movie for me where I was the main character!. Dreams always amaze me.
I love turtle I have a red-eared slider turtle and a russian tortoise

Turtles follow the same procedure or genetic behavior as adult from the moment of birth...swim without breath... as adult they swim in water but at birth they began by swimming in sand !!!!!!!!!

Hi Destin, I get your pang of emotion when seeing this sea turtle in the wild for the first time, I had the same with a dolphin family of 3 in 2006 in Bulgaria. I wanted to talk about this to my two boys but I just couldn't. I was all choked up...
Ninja turtle 🥰
I was lucky enough to get to volunteer to help mark nests and dig them up after hatching in Florida since I was around 10 in florida
Right in the feels. Cheers sir.
Hi Destin, I am slowly watching my backlog of videos and was excited to see this one. I'm not sure you'll see my post as this story is over 6 months old now but I'm willing to give it a shot. If you are ever in Australia, specifically Queensland, we have the most amazing place called Mon Repos Conservation Park where research on loggerhead turtles have been carried out for over 20 years. A new Mon Repos Turtle Centre is just been built where research and education is combined to teach visitors all about these amazing reptiles. Come visit us one day, you'll love it.
What do you do with the babies that don’t make it the fifteen meters to the surf??? SOUP???

Absolutely Beautiful God Bless all of you. Thank you so very much for this great story. Now if can just STOP polluting there oceans, they would all be in better shape. Most of them and many others Die from ingesting plastic they didn't ask to have been put in THERE HOME to begin with.
Thank GOD FOR THESE PEOPLE who care for GOD'S creatures who can't help themselves, due to accidents or our careless neglect. They are GOD'S ANGELS.
never thought i would be getting emotional over a turtle swimming in a tank.
A sea turtle startled me in Hawaii. Was snorkeling and one came up from behind and shot right by my nose. Very fast in the wild.
😂😂😂 Kale's comfortable spot had me laughing
Awesome video Destin! As a high school senior who plans on majoring in marine biology over the next years, this was extremely eye opening and informative. I’m also loving the submarine videos! Please keep doing what you’re doing, you’re a massive inspiration and a great person!
Micheal Reeves would disagree in the message that this video is trying to get out there
Looks like you made a trip to st augustine, Florida !
Just wait until you place your palm on an elephants forehead, as you notice the two inch long eyelashes.
i dont like your beard
Just so you know, this is the video that made me click, like, & subscribe. Thank you for this & I will be checking out more of your content!
You definitely need SCUBA lessons!
You clearly put a lot of effort into these videos and did a lot to get to the position where all these people are willing to give you their time. The result is incredible.
Gah dangit... I hate the excessive monetization on youtube and your net worth confirms you don't need my money, buuuut..... yeah, this may be the first time something on youtube captured my fund. Reasonable price, reasonable battery life, and seems to be reasonably quality. Assuming the image quality really is so-so(ish), that's quite impressive. ... considering the typical tech graph compared to other tech, things might get crazy very soon. (I'll still be an early adopter, just to support them)
FWIW... My thoughts matched with hers... a museum is for old historic (dead) things.
Awesome video containing awesome people. I've had an encounter with a turtle in the wild. He looked at me, I looked at him and we bothe went on with our day.

That poor turtle with the straw in its nose made me tear up not gonna lie
wow. this video was absolutely amazing. different from your other videos in such an amazing way. one of my, if not my new favourite video of yours. so unique and I learned so much. it was very interesting to see you actually learning as much as we were as the video progressed, in a way connecting with me and the audience more than ever. I know I learned a lot and now understand why people like sea turtles and strive to protect them so much. I've seen in movies and tv shows protect the turtles protest and sea life and then of course the other side just not care at all and think its annoying, like what American Dad did, but even though its just jokes it put an idea in my mind that it doesn't matter, but this video changed that and really opened my eyes to this. so thank you, thank you so much for making this video. it really is truly amazing.
The sloppy foundation distally bump because quiver conceptually practise within a ahead gazelle. calm, friendly grain
Thanks for that video brother. As of Florida native growing up on the gulf coast myself I'm a huge fan of all those little guys. And some of those big ones too. Been a long time subscriber and I really appreciate what you do. Both might children and myself have given up on TV. And shows like yours make for a very knowledgeable and entertaining pastime. I appreciate your morals and family ranted show structure as well. Sometimes it's hard to find things appropriate to share with our children that are still entertaining for us as well. I appreciate you and I'm thankful for you
someone associated with US national defense gets sponsorship from Chinese Communist-backed company DJI nice had to dislike this video
When you see tanks without enrichment: 😞
48:47 🤔🧐🤔 I Wonder if the fact that he keeps getting in that position has anything they do with his condition in that hole in his throat?🤔🧐🤔🧐🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ maybe it's more comfortable for him or maybe that angle helps close the hole in his/her throat & makes it easier to breath🤔🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🐢

I love turtles, but banning plastic straws is asinine. It was a one in a million chance, yet now, we've had several human deaths from re-usable straws. ProTip: If you make a decision based on emotion, it's a bad decision.
This is my favorite video so far !
Who let the hippy name animals after veges. They had Gangsta names

This video was amazing! Me and my wife absolutely love sea turtles and we were blessed to be able to go to the Sea Turtle Sanctuary in the Florida Keys on our honeymoon! You should go there it is close to you! I am from Crane Hill Alabama originally (very small town on Lewis Smith Lake) so I am very excited to hear about this facility I can visit in Decatur! Love your videos sir! Keep it up!
Yes, life is full of possibilities.
At 12:25 that is the most awesome view and video I have ever seen
Obviously, it's illegal to buy or sell tortoiseshell in the US today. Products such as pickguards for guitars, hair clips and such use faux tortoiseshell, although many vintage guitars, for example, may have used real tortoiseshell in the past.
"Everyone likes sea turtles" Michael Reeves: *feels the need to kill all sea turtles because of paper straws*
why am i alive everyone knows a second language
They just didn't show you the room where they're trying to create the teenage mutant ninja turtles...
33:06 That's my sister!!! Turtles were the main reason she studied marine biology! It's so cool to see her talking about her passion to such a large audience!
