@Jimbob Robob Exactly how would control hundreds of millions of people even the Germans found it near impossible.

      2. yfelwulf

@Influence08 Australia never entered Europe other than providing pilots.

      3. Jimbob Robob

Planning for an invasion is a bit of the usual paranoid middle class overreach about the USSR. As if a conventional bombing campaign might not have preceded a nuclear one or sabotage and special ops by agents and special forces wouldn't have been a thing. Invasion indeed! How paranoid. It's as if the anxiety over Putin has pushed aside the collapse of the USSR under it's own deficiencies when it was revealed to be almost certainly incapable of such a thing and had been for decades.

      4. yfelwulf

@thats not your bussines Unlike America that is about to become a 4th World Country.

      5. yfelwulf

@Raged Ape evo Russia had Germany on the run before the Allies entered Europe they actually captured Berlin. They also at Americas request defeated Japan in just 2 weeks. America only fought 20% of the Japanese Army that had no equipment and had to steal food to operate. They used the A Bomb to stop them surrendering to Russia. FYI the British Army outfought and captured more territory than America in Europe you must have seen the movie version where America won.

    10. R. J. Lombardi

Vodka is poison... Also WW2 was a combined effort. But you know what the Russians did? They took care of the Grand Armee and Napoleon. They also sent the first satellite into orbit, (ok, ok all the former Soviet countries get a credit for the last one). Also what about Pushkin? Lermontov? Shostakovich? Solzhenitsyn? Yesenin? Gluhowski?

As Victor Suvorov has noticed, one of the reasons for the 1941 German sucess was that USSR had no accurate maps of its own territory to give to its own troops although it had excellent maps of.... Germany. This tells us something of their pre-war plans, doesn't it?

    35. Grogery 1

I just read that Australian maps have been adjusted to allow for continental drift. Any chance of digging into that?

Yet again the meme that the Soviets won the war by themselves. TL;DR it was a combined effort, the Allies wouldn't have made it without the Soviets and vice versa. Yes they absorbed circa 80% of German ground forces, but circa 80% of the Luftwaffe was kept busy by Allied bombing of Germany... The scale and impact of the bombing and the detriment it had to the German war effort cannot be over emphasised enough. At the height of the bombing, the RAF would send a stream of circa 1000 bombers to a single target in one night, whilst the USAAF kept them busy with similar numbers during the day. This is something the Soviets had absolute no capability to do, being entirely consumed by their efforts in the ground war. It was 24 hours round the clock and anything of military importance in Western and Central Europe (factories, industrial output, railways, roads, bridges) etc. that could be of use to the Axis was absolutely obliterated. More civilians died in a single night raid on Dresden than during the whole of the Blitz on Britain. It got so bad that entire supply chains ceased to function... Most of Europe was starving and emaciated due to the food shortages, millions of civilians were displaced etc. it was absolute anarchy. Not to mention the countless millions of tons of fuel, munitions, and other war materials etc. that were sent to the Soviets by both the UK and US via the Artic Convoys. In total they received tens of thousands of vehicles (trucks, aeroplanes, tanks etc.) and then they immediately stabbed us in the back with the Cold War. Stalin was as bad as the Austrian man but for some reason he, and the Soviets, get a free pass in modern culture. What about the gulags, massacre of Poles at Katyn etc. etc. the list of Soviet atrocities matches those of the Axis blow for blow. They were partners of convenience and nothing more. As soon as the war ended they then decided to hold the world to ransom for 50 years with the Cold War.

When Russia was invaded by Alexander the fraud, the yellow Horde of regular Russian Army responded by pushing the rotters back right to the coast of France. The Russians redid all the maps back then and named a lot of European geography with Russian names that remain today. So the English got their fine maps from the Russians.

    50. vincent7520

Your statement maybe right but I can tell you the Paris (France) map at 5:25 is far from being exact : streets are missing, the Mint facing the Pont Neuf on the left bank is entirely obliterated (I was born on one of the surrounding street in 1948 and lived in the same till 2003 !…), passages through blocks are not mentioned (essential when we're talking military occupation) … Russians have been known to be sloppy… or was Paris not so strategically important ?…

      1. vincent7520

Update : the rue Visconti, passage Dauphine, Rue de Nesle, rue Mazet, is missing : that's a lot for a 400m x 400m square, not to mention the total inaccuracy of the rue Mazarine, rue de Bucy and rue Dauphine junctions, not to mention the inaccuracy of the rue Jacques Callot, rue de Seine, rue Guénégaud auctions the same spot … wow ! wow ! …

So the Russians made maps to help their soldiers invade Britain if they ever needed to. You think we didn't do the same? The only difference is we didn't lose the Cold War and let a whole bunch of our maps get into the wrong hands during the subsequent great bugout.

    74. Graham Ariss

I think actually the maps were part of Soviet Planning and thusly quite absurd, for example you show a Polish Airforce Map, very useful for an airforce that the Soviets would not entrust with any aircraft to be able to reach much beyond its borders, let alone to the south coast of England. Not only that, but in the Soviet Union the longer range your aircraft, the further you were placed from the border with the West and or strategic aircraft could only be crewed by personnel with significant family commitments so they would not be motivated to defect to the West, with an event such as an marital breakdown liable to see you posted to the east. However whilst the Soviet Union post Lenin had given up any idea of global domination focusing on its survival and post war tieing the west up in wars away from its borders I.e Korea, Vietnam, Middle East the map making department continued with Plan A, mapping and remapping the world for an occupation that not only would not but also could not happen.

Radiators huh, The Russian San Galli's claim as the inventor of the heating radiator is disputed. It appears that he is one of several people who contributed to the development of the heating innovation. San Galli received a radiator patent in 1857, while American Joseph Nason developed a primitive radiator in 1841and received a number of U.S. patents for hot water and steam heating. Nason's patent for tapered pipe threads in particular is cited by 1930s writer Ara Marcus Daniels as the key development in the birth of the radiator.
