RAID - Redundant Array of INEXPENSIVE Disks There is nothing "independent" about a bunch of hard drives all working together to back each other up. Now you are smarter everyday.

    60. Arthyu Alagao

The verdant taurus geometrically seal because beet surgically spoil sans a evanescent rubber. thankful, decisive jury

    61. Nathaniel Stickley

Note: people often do a burn-in to stress the drives before actually trusting them, even when they are in a RAID array or other redundant storage system, because the drives that are going to die early can often be detected during or after a burn in (The S.M.A.R.T health diagnostic data often reveals issues after a good burn-in). It's also good to have extra drives on hand to swap out when one of the working drives dies, so you don't have to order a new one and wait to arrive.

    62. Jesse Davis

So... how many servers do you have now?

ok, here’s me complaining that i only have 1tb and here’s him having 160

    68. Owen Kittredge

For clients I have put in place systems like this but after a cost benefit analysis and in this case the cost for running this system in power consumption and how often the old data has to be accessed. I have data going back 20 years, On offline drives, that maybe i have accessed 3 times. Yep i am a data hoarder, but when i see the power cost of running a system like this in my home office i like offline drives. The upside there will be no need to heat the room that file server is in but the cooling maybe an issue come summer.

    69. Jesse Fritz

He's gonna be spending days transferring that data. BUT at least he'll have a backup of it.

    77. Jamie McEwan

2:15 There's a look on Linus' face that all techs get at some stage during niche custom setups like this. That "wait, you're doing what?" look. Loved it. PS: UnRAID is the bomb.

    78. Sierra Romeo

They live in the same cinematic universe?

    79. Stickbug

This is actually a match made in heaven this was amazing to watch

    80. Dustin Graybill

I didn't watch the whole video because I don't have time right now, but that's really not a lot of storage. We install 15 servers this big or bigger every week. Destin, when this thing runs out of storage, let me know, I would be glad to help you out with much much more storage that is more easily expandable. Looks like there was maybe 16 bays in this server? We typically install servers with 28 bays. They are shorter than this one (2U) but longer. You're basically completely full already with no room for expansion, that's really not a smart way to buy a server. You always want to leave room for expansion. At least 20% is a good rule of thumb.

    81. Connie Prude

Can you give an update on how long it took to transfer all your drives to the new server?

    82. kjm 1955

A lot of data stored on drives will never ever get used, but we all know the moment you want a clip and deleted it years ago then it matters. the same with online storage companies. Everyone is scared of losing data and companies play on that fact and create income from fear. believe me 99.9% of stored data will never ever be required in the life span of the universe.

    83. Allan Mageto
