When I was younger and drawn to high art I would use my down time when I needed to relax and recharge watching films that turned out to be horrifically tragic and depressing. This is why I'm so committed to what Maxine Hong Kingston once called the realistic happy ending... EDIT: The way it was framed I thought the question was whether getting rid of Happy Endings is bad for society. Though I misunderstood, I think the comment is still relevant to do two arguments in these videos which are both quite persuasive...
I would say that "small steps or signs of personal growth" Are happy endings. They are what author Maxine Hong Kingston once called "the realistic happy ending." When I wrote fiction, I was completely committed to creating these... They are small moments of epiphany.
